Juneau Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Accident 

Felony charges have been brought against a 48-year-old Juneau man for allegedly driving on a suspended license when he caused a fatal traffic accident. Robert Underwood told investigators that he was coughing and choking before he abruptly crossed the centerline on State Highway 60. The September 2017 crash killed the other driver Beverly Vincent, and sent her passenger Bryan Vincent to a hospital with serious injuries. Underwood’s license was suspended due to a speeding ticket. He claims he paid the fine, but didn’t have enough patience to stand in a long line to get his license reinstated. His initial appearance in Dodge County court is on August 19th. 

Two Sex Offenders Moving To Oshkosh In Next Few Weeks

Two sex offenders will be released from prison and will be moving to Oshkosh in the coming weeks. Twenty-six-year-old Larry Baird will be moving to 60 Sennholz Court on August 13th and 40-year-old Jason Wright will be living at 1105 Jefferson Street beginning August 20th. Baird’s victim was a 13-year-old girl. He was convicted of causing a child to view or listen to a sexual act and exposing a child to harmful materials. Wright was convicted of two counts of child enticement and his victims were young girls. Both men will be on electronic monitoring.  

Vaping Responsible For More Lung Disease Cases 

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has received 11 cases of teenagers and young adults hospitalized with severe lung disease that has been linked to recent vaping. Seven other cases are under further investigation. Counties with confirmed cases include Door, Racine, Walworth, Dodge, Waukesha, and Winnebago. The patients experienced shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, cough, and weight loss. The severity of the disease has varied among patients, with some needing assistance to breathe. While patients have improved with treatment, it is not known if there will be long-term health effects.  People should contact their doctor or local or tribal public health offices with any concerns about these symptoms. 

Maintenance Work Begins Today On Waupaca County US 10 Bridges

The Waupaca County Highway Department will be conducting routine maintenance on 24 bridges along US Highway 10 throughout Waupaca County beginning today.  State Department of Transportation officials say drivers can expect to encounter weekday, single-lane closures on eastbound and westbound US 10 bridges throughout the county. The lane closures are necessary for crews to safely complete the routine maintenance.  All work is scheduled for completion before the end of the day, Friday, August 16th 

Ripon National Night Out Celebration Tuesday 

The Ripon Police Department will be hosting a National Night Out celebration at Barlow Park tomorrow evening from 5 to 7 pm. Sergeant Lindsey Michels says it’s a good opportunity for people to see the service they provide and get to know the officers on a more personal level. “Typically we see people when we have to respond to for calls or things of that nature so this event really gives an opportunity just to be out there just to chat.” During the event Officer Trevor Hanke and K9 Rony will give a demonstration at 5:15 and there is a drone demonstration at 6 pm. Ripon Police, Fire, and EMS will have their vehicles and gear there. For the kids there will be games, a bouncy house, a bike giveaway, and DJ music. There will also be food, water, and Culver’s Ice Cream. It’s a free event and all are welcome. 

New Attractions At The State Fair 

The Wisconsin State Fair may be 168 years old, but every year it has a few new wrinkles. Kristi Chuckel is the Director of Public Affairs for Wisconsin State Fair Park. She says one of their new attractions is the Dairy Lane Exhibit located in the southeast end of the Lower Cattle Barn.(“We have a new Dairy Lane Exhibit and we are really excited about that because it is very modern and educational, there are touch screens and just lots of ways for fairgoers to learn about the Dairy Industry in Wisconsin.” Wednesday is Shoppers Fair-A-Dise when 60 vendors will offer discounts on select merchandise or their entire store. There are also new vendors and new rides. The State Fair runs through Sunday at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis.

August Field Day Event

The Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil-Healthy Water are hosting their 3rd annual August Field Day at Vanderloop Equipment this Wednesday. Registration starts at 10:00 am. During the free event Doug Sutter and Carey Vanderloop from Vanderloop Equipment will be explaining the manure handling systems they offer along with discussions about minimizing compaction and managing phosphorus. Afternoon discussions will include reducing tillage, soil health and biology, and expanding your rotations. Vanderloop Equipment is located at N8766 Buckhorn Road in Beaver Dam. Registration can be accomplished online or by calling the Dodge County Land and Water Conservation Department at (920) 386-3660.
