A 65-year-old Mt. Calvary woman who embezzled money from the Fond du Lac County American Legion avoided a jury trial this week by pleading no contest to three counts of theft from a business setting. Fond du Lac County Judge Gary Sharpe sentenced Donna Wilhelms to 30 days in jail, two years of probation and ordered her to pay nearly $11,000 in restitution. According to the criminal complaint Fond du Lac Police learned Wilhelms was taking checks out of the American Legion account and depositing them into a credit union account she had set up. She then drew cash out of the account for personal use. At the time she was the County Treasurer for the American Legion. Most of the money was generated by poppy sales.
