Starting next Monday the public will have to go through a security check point on the north end of the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac to gain access to the building during business hours. The security checkpoint will include equipment similar to what is commonly seen in airport security, which will include an X-ray scanner for all items brought into the building and a walkthrough metal detector. County Executive Al Buechel says it isn’t much different than what people have to go through at an airport. “It’s a matter for people using the courthouse regularly they will be prepared to go through it minimum inconvenience. You know a lot of people coming off the street if they have been through an airport it is not going to be that different.” The checkpoint is off 2nd Street in Fond du Lac and will operate Monday through Fridays from 7:30 am to 5 pm with exceptions for scheduled public meetings that will require limited portions of the building to be open later. Buechel says city and county employees will have a separate entrance. The Macy Street entrance will be locked and will only be used as an emergency exit.
