Mumps Cases Were Watched Closely
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they were fortunate that two separate cases of the mumps in the county this summer weren’t spread. One was in Fond du Lac and the other in Lomira. Mueller says both suspected cases were based on a diagnosis of the symptoms. “None of them were confirmed by a like a blood test, but all were confirmed by symptoms I should make that clear. So those two different cases, one of them was in Lomira one of them was here in the city of Fond du Lac.” She says anyone that needed to be notified was and watched for symptoms with anyone that was exposed to the two different cases, but none developed.

Blood Platelets Needed
The Community Blood Center in Appleton is in urgent need of platelet donors to support the needs of local patients in the 21 hospitals they serve. Platelets are the component of blood that controls bleeding. They are crucial for transplant recipients, cancer patients and trauma victims. Additionally, platelets have a short shelf life of only five days, which means they need to be replenished daily. Platelet donors, including those who have never made a prior donation, are encouraged to make an appointment. A platelet donation, from registration to completion, takes about two hours. The CBC has donor centers in Appleton, Oshkosh, Little Chute, and Woodruff. To make an appointment at any of these centers, call (800) 280-4102 or visit www.communityblood.org.
