FDL Man Facing Charges In Waukesha County
A 37-year-old Fond du Lac man is facing felony and misdemeanor for a standoff Interstate 94 in Waukesha County on June 4th. Nathan Halfmann made his initial court appearance last Thursday. Bond was set $100,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 1st. According to the criminal complaint Halfmann and a passenger were involved in a chase with a stolen van that culminated on an overpass over I-94. Halfmann barricaded himself in the van and allegedly told authorities his passenger was a hostage. Gas was used to get the suspects out of the van. Halfmann was shot three times as he ran from it. He’s been recovering in a hospital since then.
Three Young Girls Hurt In Outagamie County Accident
Three young girls ages 4,5, and 6 were injured when a Chevy Suburban ran a stop sign in Outagamie County last night and collided with a pickup truck. Sheriff’s officials say two of girls, the 4 and 6-year-olds, were flown to a hospital with serious injuries and the five year old was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The girls were in the Suburban. The 39-year-old Green Bay man driving the Suburban was arrested. He’s suspected of driving drunk. The pickup was driven by a 58-year-old Dale man. The drivers were not hurt. The accident in the Town of Oneida happened at the intersection of County Highways EE and C.
OWI Arrests
The State Patrol arrested two men for separate drunken driving incidents over the weekend in Waushara and Waupaca counties. Sixty-two-year-old Gordon Gauthier of Cudahy was arrested Friday night for his fourth drunken driving offense after being pulled over for speeding on State Highway 73 at Fifth Avenue in Waushara County. Fifty-eight-year-old John Starks of Wisconsin Rapids was pulled over Saturday morning on US Highway 10 eastbound and State Highway 54 in Waupaca County for erratic driving and was arrested for sixth drunken driving offense.
Governor Signs Feyen Bill Into Law
Governor Tony Evers signed a bipartisan bill into law Monday that will save taxpayer money and boost Wisconsin’s economy. Under current law, a business may deduct from its Wisconsin income or franchise taxes all expenses that the business paid to move operations out of the state or the country. The new bill does not allow businesses to deduct expenses used to move their business outside of Wisconsin or the United States. State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac co-authored the bill. He says, “We all want to see our economy grow and prosper. It’s common sense that one of the best ways to boost our economy is to encourage businesses to stay right here in the state of Wisconsin and invest in our future.”
Holiday Hours
Fond du Lac County offices in the City/County Government Center in Fond du Lac, the Sheriff’s Office lobby window, Department of Social Services, including the offices in the Portland Street Annex, Veterans Service Office and the Highway Department will be closed all day on y Thursday and Friday July 4th and 5th to observe of Independence Day. The Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will also be closed those days.
