Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin is thrilled to announce that the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin honored Kathy Davies with the Keystone Award during National Community Foundation Week. The press release with information about the is below. We kindly request your consideration in sharing this story with your network. For additional information or materials, feel free to contact me. We appreciate your support in sharing this news. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: KaYing Vang, Community Storyteller Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin 715-342-4454 kaying@cfcwi.org The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin Honors Kathy Davies with the Keystone Award During National Community Foundation Week Stevens Point, Wisconsin (Nov 10, 2024) – The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin (Community Foundation) will join in a nationwide celebration, November 12-18, 2019, to recognize the increasingly important role these philanthropic organizations play in fostering local collaboration and innovation to bring community driven ideas to life. As part of our local celebration, the Community Foundation honored one of its biggest champions, Kathy Davies, of Plover. Kathy received the 2024 Keystone Award at the Community Foundation’s Gala of Gratitude. The award acknowledges her incredible dedication to the Community Foundation and its regional focus on Portage and Waushara Counties. She’s worn many hats over the years, from stepping in as interim executive director to serving as board president and has always been a strong community leader. Kathy’s story with the Community Foundation began in 1997 when she created the Laura Davies Memorial Scholarship to honor her daughter. Since then, she’s been a driving force, helping launch the Women’s Fund of Portage County and, with her husband Tom, joining the Living Legacy Society. Her passion for helping others also shines in Waushara County philanthropy, where she’s supported projects in her hometown of Wildrose, the Patterson Memorial Library Fund, and the Kiwanis Club of Wild Rose Fund. The Keystone Award celebrates Kathy’s deep love for our community and her commitment to making it stronger for generations to come. Each year, this award honors people who give their time, energy, and resources to create lasting change, inspired by those who founded the Keystone Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation. As community foundations support solutions for communities large and small, urban and rural – it is the collective work of these organizations and people like Kathy Davies that will have the most profound impact. In fiscal year 2024, the Community Foundation and its donors directed $1,575,679 in resources to support nonprofits and student scholarships. Since its founding in 1982, the Community Foundation has facilitated over $17 million in giving, advancing its vision of creating thriving communities in Portage and Waushara counties with a strong culture of philanthropy. For more than a century, community foundations have served as a trusted partner and resource whose effect can be seen in the lives of millions and in the vibrant neighborhoods that continue to thrive through their mission-driven work. Community foundations are independent, public entities that steward philanthropic resources from institutional and individual donors to local nonprofits and represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy. Community Foundation Week was created in 1989 by former president George H.W. Bush to recognize the work of community foundations throughout America and their collaborative approach to working with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to address community problems. About Us The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that inspires charitable giving by connecting people and resources to enhance Central Wisconsin now and for future generations. (October 07, 2024) – William Elliott Whitmore will perform a 506 Session at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m. 506 Sessions feature cocktail style seating, with only 80 tickets available. Born and raised on a small farm in Lee County Iowa, a love of the land has always been an important part of William Elliott Whitmore’s life. An appreciation for nature and its cycles being taught from an early age. That awareness of birth and death is a constant theme in the songwriting, through a lens of hopefulness and acceptance. These things unify us as people, a theme that is often explored in the music. With a banjo, guitar and kick drum, Whitmore seeks to convey these ideas. For over twenty years he has traveled the world, performing everywhere from Rome, Italy to Rome, Georgia. He’s played basements, backyards, festival stages, and Carnegie Hall, and has no plans to stop anytime soon. “Life is hard, nasty, and unforgiving at times”, Whitmore says, “but it’s beautiful too, and music can be a reminder of what we all have in common, a desire to keep putting one foot in front of the other.” William Elliott Whitmore’s performance is sponsored by Heidel House, Goose Blind, and Sturgeon Spirits. Reception Featuring Artist Mikaela Nummerdor, November 16, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Green Lake, Wis. (November 04, 2024) – Green Lake’s historic Thrasher Opera House is hosting an exhibit from November 1 – to December 31, 2024. This exhibit can be viewed M-F 10-4; for after-hour visits, call 920.294.4279 to schedule a time. Mikaela Nummerdor, a Wisconsin-based artist, graduated with her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2018. Since then, she has exhibited her work in various shows across the Midwest and has been featured in several publications. This exhibition marks her first solo show, a significant milestone in her artistic adventure. Drawing inspiration primarily from nature, Mikaela approaches her subjects through a unique abstract lens. Her process-driven work emphasizes the formal qualities of art, thus allowing her to explore the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Influenced by Post-Impressionism, Mikaela seeks to capture the ephemeral essence of her surroundings, inviting viewers to experience a new perspective on familiar landscapes. Please join Mikaela for an artist reception on Saturday, November 16, from 5-7 pm. This event is open to the public; a cash bar will be available. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets for William Elliott Whitmore’s performance on November 16 at 7:30 p.m. are $35 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279 Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House. Art & Craft Supply Swap at Princeton Library Winter Break Crafternoons at the Princeton Library Laura Skalitzky Princeton Public Library FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: KaYing Vang, Community Storyteller Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin 715-342-4454 kaying@cfcwi.org George Rogers Tomorrow River Fund Donates $10,000 to Midwest Environmental Advocates Stevens Point, WI – The George Rogers Memorial Tomorrow River Fund, held at the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, has made a gift of $10,000 to Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA). The donation will support MEA’s work to protect clean water in Central Wisconsin. The donation was celebrated on October 23 with a gathering that honored the memory of George Rogers, a respected local journalist and environmental champion dedicated to protecting the Tomorrow River and other natural areas in Central Wisconsin. Tom Miller, a representative of the George Rogers Tomorrow River Fund and dear friend to George, spoke at the event, sharing stories of Rogers’ dedication to the environment and the importance of stewardship. “George cared deeply about these waters and wanted them protected for future generations,” said Miller. “I have paddled across the globe and there is nothing like the beauty the Tomorrow Rives holds in Central Wisconsin.” Rogers, known for his thoughtful journalism and conservation work, left a legacy that connects his passion for clean rivers with ongoing efforts to keep Wisconsin’s natural areas safe. He had advocated and supported the Community Foundation to begin grant making towards Environmental efforts over 20 years ago, a funding opportunity that continues to this day. Two close friends joined Miller to share their own memories of the Tomorrow River and their experiences with George, describing the river as a gathering place for the community and a reminder of the need for ongoing care. Kara O’Connor, Development Director for Midwest Environmental Advocates, accepted the donation, expressing appreciation for Rogers’ legacy and the fund’s support. “MEA’s current advocacy in the Tomorrow River Watershed came about thanks to local grassroots leaders who are working to ensure clean water for all,” said O’Connor. “MEA is honored to collaborate with clean water champions throughout Wisconsin, and we are grateful to the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin for supporting such community-driven environmental partnerships.” Representing the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin were Jenny Riggenbach, Marlee Samuels, Sarah Ross, and Azend’e Coley. The Community Foundation, which has supported local environmental efforts across Portage and Waushara Counties, values the opportunity to help MEA build on Rogers’ lasting contributions to conservation and community well-being. “I can start you right away. Tomorrow, even. Pays $7.25 an hour.” Will’s new job at the Boise Hobby Lobby doesn’t provide much in terms of security, but what does these days? Union busting, a busted microwave, and a constantly droning company TV that sometimes cuts to gruesome medical footage (quick warning to our audience!) are the least of his worries. Will was called to this Hobby Lobby for a reason, one that will throw a wrench into the ceaseless grind of his coworkers’ lives. But are his intentions for good or is he here because he’s trying to outrun some darkness?
Rebel Alliance Theatre brings another conversation provoking play to their audience at an affordable price. All performances take place at First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, 137 Algoma Blvd.
A Bright New Boise will be presented Friday and Saturday November 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th. All shows start at 7PM (doors open at 6:30PM). Tickets for A Bright New Boise can be purchased at the door on show nights or online: ko-fi.com/rebelalliancetheatre. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale of $18-25. will host a Pop-Up Performance featuring Beth Bombara on Thursday, November 21.
Performance from Beth Bombara: 6:30 pm
506 Session – Cocktail style seating
Beth Bombara’s It All Goes Up is for this moment what Kathleen Edwards’ Back To Me was
for the early 2000s. It’s all there – the songwriting first and foremost with a voice that
connects on a raw, emotional level alongside production led by Bombara’s undeniable
musicality, retaining the intimacy of being wholly conceived by the artist
herself. Bombara’s last album, Evergreen, was well-received by fans and media alike. “The
likes of Aimee Mann and Jewel are fair comparisons,” noted the L.A. Weekly, “every tone is
tinged with emotion, nothing is wasted.” With It All Goes Up, Bombara has risen to a new
level and let some light in. “There’s more light, more hope in this record,” she says, “and it
feels more positive sonically, as well.” These songs were written during the chaos of the
past couple years, and the time found Bombara looking for silver linings, writing to keep
herself positive and keep her mind open and fresh. She continues, “During the pandemic I
reconnected with an old guitar that had been collecting dust in my closet for many years.
It’s a classical guitar, and I wrote a lot of the songs for this record on it, which brought
something different to them and took the tone of the record in a new direction.” Bombara’s
songwriting certainly did take a turn – upwards, in more ways than one.
