The Brewers are back in action as they host the Miami Marlins tonight. Chase Anderson, who’s 3-0, is on the mound for Milwaukee against Miami’s Pablo Lopez, who’s 3-5. First pitch is at 6:40 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS. The Brewers are a game ahead of the Cubs in the N.L. Central while the Cardinals are 3 games back, Pittsburgh is 5 games out and Cincinnati, 6 ½ behind.
There was just one game in the division Monday as the Cubs beat the Angels, 8-1. Javier Baez homered and doubled while driving in three runs for the Cubs. Wilson Contreras also homered for Chicago. Jon Lester went seven innings and picked up the win to even his record at 4-4.
Milwaukee selected left-handed pitcher Ethan Small 28th overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. The 22-year-old Small is 9-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 160 strikeouts with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Small is also one of five finalists for the College National Pitcher of the Year Award.
In boys baseball action today, Waupun plays West Depere in the Winneconne Sectional.
Jordy Nelson plans to sign a one-day deal with Green Bay sometime in August and retire as a Packer. The former Green Bay wide receiver told a TV station in Kansas he expects to do so sometime during training camp. Nelson said back in March he would retire after 11 seasons in the NFL, 10 of those coming with the Packers. He played his final season in Oakland. The former second-round pick caught 550 passes for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns with the Packers.
In honor of June Dairy Month, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will have a new look. On Thursday, June 20, players will take the field at Fox Cities Stadium as the Wisconsin Udder Tuggers. Players and coaches will wear special-designed hats and jerseys for the game against the Clinton LumberKings. Jerseys will be available in an online charity auction with proceeds going to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Charity Fund.
The first 1,000 fans to attend the June 20 game will receive a Timber Rattlers beach towel.
