Tomorrow afternoon Fond du Lac County’s Board of Health will consider a resolution that requests the state legislature end the use of personal conviction waivers for school and daycare immunizations. The country is currently dealing with a measles outbreak with more than 940 cases in 26 states. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says there are no current cases in the state, but they’ve been working with local health care providers to make sure the infrastructure is in place should they start seeing them. “Making sure everybody has that right information so if there was a case they were told well in advance the repercussions of not having that vaccine if they were to be in contact with a suspect case.” Mueller says in New York City a “Public Health Emergency” was declared in four different zip codes requiring vaccinations against measles irregardless of personal convictions. If the Board of Health passes the resolution it would be forwarded with a recommendation to the County Board to do so as well.

Not So Busy Election Year This Year
Barring a special election voters in Fond du Lac County will not have to go to the polls again this year. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says it’s the lull before the storm with a busy election year in 2020 with local, state, and federal elections including the Presidential Election. “The Presidential Preference Primary for Wisconsin is scheduled for April 7th of 2020 I want to let people know that I know there was some talk of changing that for next year, but that is not going to be changed.” Of course the Presidential Election itself will be in November of next year. She says there will also be a referendum on Marsy’s Law, which would update the Wisconsin Constitution to ensures crime victims are treated with the dignity and respect. Freiberg says it will also be the last election year for the County Board in its current structure. After that redistricting could change the districts supervisors represent.
