Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says it’s no surprise the amount of firefighters who turned out Thursday to pay tribute to fallen Appleton Firefighter Mitchell Lundgaard. Engines and Fire Trucks lined up on overpasses on Interstate 41 as Lundgaard’s body was escorted back to Appleton. Saul says fire and police are a tight knit community aware of the risks they take every day. “We were able to have fire apparatus on every overpass from throughout the entire county. It’s a shout out to everybody out there all the volunteer departments that dropped what they were doing whether they were at work or wherever to make sure that they had representation out there to properly honor our fallen brother.” Lundgaard was shot by 47-year-old Ruben Houston of Wausau in Appleton Wednesday evening and died later at a hospital. Visitation for Lundgaard is today from 3 to 5:30 pm at Appleton Alliance Church with a family-only funeral at 6 pm.
