Ripon Diamond Booster Club Beverage License Voted Down By Common Council

15 May 2019 News

The Ripon Council last night voted down a request from the Ripon Diamond Booster Club to sell beer during a softball tournament at the Murray Park Softball Diamonds next month. Diamond Club President Chris Bartlett told the Council other cities from the area that they play softball against sell beer at their tournaments to offset costs. Police Chief Bill Wallner told the Council he had an issue with selling alcoholic beverages at a youth tournament, but if the Council approved it they would provide the checks they normally do during such tournaments. Alderman Al Schraeder said the proposal had more holes in it than Swiss cheese. The Council voted down the temporary beverage license 4 to 3, but Bartlett was encouraged to put together a more specific proposal and bring it before the Council at their June 11th meeting. The tournament isn’t until the weekend of June 21st.
