Celebrating The Right To Vote For Women

15 May 2019 News

State Representative Joan Ballweg says the State Assembly today will pass a resolution recognizing Wisconsin’s role in getting women the right to vote. The state lawmaker from Markesan is among the authors of the resolution. She says Wisconsin was among the first states to pass a resolution supporting the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. “We have several women from Ripon and Berlin that were instrumental in moving this along. So nationwide this is going to be a celebration and recognition that will be going on for well over a year.” She notes there will be a celebration at the State Capitol and Wisconsin Historical Society on June 10th where a copy of the original amendment will be on display. The 19th Amendment was adopted on August 18th, 1920.
