Tours Help Ripon School Board Understand How Charter School Would Work
Ripon School Board members got a few tours to see what a charter school at Barlow Park Elementary School might look like. The district will find out at the end of June whether their application will be approved by the state’s Department of Public Instruction. Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock is pleased board members took the tours. “And I have had groups of board members going to the schools over the past couple of weeks and have spent the better part of a morning just being in and out of classrooms and really observing what the competency-based model as well as the elements of free and guided play look like in action with our students.” Whitrock says the board members were impressed especially with how much research and information teachers were using to engage their students. She says the district is really fortunate with the talent they have in their teaching staff.
ATV Road Use
Some day UTVs and ATVs may be allowed to use Fond du Lac County roads, but not at this time. Town of Ripon Police Captain Howard Stibb says there are none at this time, although neighboring counties are allowing the use of some back roads. “Winnebago County, Waushara County, Marquette County, and Green Lake County the townships in those counties are designating a majority of the back roads where they can ride.” UTVs and ATVs using those back road have to observe the rules of the road and can’t go faster than 35 miles an hour. Stibb says Fond du Lac, Green Lake and Winnebago counties have agreed on the use of an old railroad bed for a trail from Ripon to the Berlin area. But a starting point is needed from out of the city of Ripon.
