Markesan Police Chief Will Pflum is hoping some good will come out a vandalism incident that occurred at a warehouse for a church group. Two young juveniles confessed to damaging furniture and other items belonging to Appliance Fest a committee of Markesan United Methodist Church. He says the youths didn’t realize the building and items in it belonged to a church. He says issuing tickets doesn’t always solve problems. “If we can find alternative ways to address issues, which I think is a perfect alternative rather than making these kids parents come up with money to pay, the kids can kind of learn from their mistake with some manual labor and also get to understand how the organization works and how it feels to give back.” The two youth will be doing community service for the church group. Pflum some good has already come out of the incident. His department’s posting about the incident led to donations to the church. Appliance Fest donates gently used furniture and appliances to families in need. To make a donation you can call (920) 398-3254.
