Prescription Drug Drop Opportunities In Ripon
The coordinator of Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County reminds Ripon residents that there are a couple of drug drop boxes in the community that are open pretty much 24/7 year-round for the safe disposal of unused and expired prescription drugs. Ellen Sorensen says the one at the police department is open 24/7. Another is at the Ripon Medical Center. “But with boxes you transport your own medications in the bottles and there are zip lock bags there so you open up your bottles and you put the pills in the bag and you put the bag in the box and you can take your bottles home and recycle them.” Tomorrow there will be a one-day drop at the Ripon Senior Center from 10 to 11 am, Russell Manor from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, and Willowbrook from 2 to 3 pm.
Weather Spotters Play A Role
Weather spotters help the National Weather Service make decisions on the severity of a storm or whether a tornado is in an area. Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says in the past weather spotters reported to county emergency management which relayed the information to the National Weather Service. The process has been streamlined and spotters now report directly to the National Weather Service. “The National Weather Servic is the one that needs to be with those spotters asking questions, validating what they are seeing and getting that ground truth immediately so that they can make decisions immediately.” Last week was Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. Two weather spotter training sessions were held in the Fond du Lac area.
Golf Carts Now Allowed On Markesan City Streets
A new ordinance allows Markesan residents to use golf carts on city streets. But they do have to be registered and pass certain safety requirements. Police Chief Will Pflum inspects the carts before they can be registered and given a sticker. “Any resident of the city of Markesan can come into city hall and pick up and application and on that application, it specifies exactly what you are going to need to get a permit.” Among the requirements are working brakes, headlights, taillights, rearview mirror, a safety flag and a slow-moving vehicle sign. The application fee is $50 for the first year and $25 for renewal. The new ordinance went into effect at the beginning of the month.
