Ripon School Board Votes Against Using District Facility For Boys and Girls Club
27 March 2019 News
The Ripon School Board this week voted to support an effort to bring a Boys & Girls Club to Ripon, but won’t be offering one of its facilities or replacing the BRAVE program. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says both programs serve students after school, but there really is a different mission and focus. She says the schools are really used a lot after school for any number of different programs. “What becomes a little complicated is that if Boys & Girls Club is at one of the schools it really closes off a lot of that facility to any other community things including some of our community sports programs or other club activities.” She says if both programs operated in Ripon they would expect fewer students in the BRAVE program, but that would allow the district to help students who need additional academic support even more.
