Award Winning Author Will Read At Ripon College

RIPON — Award-winning author Jesse Lee Kercheval will read from her work Wednesday, April 3, at Ripon College. The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Lane Library. It is free and open to the public. Her books will be available for purchase.

 

Kercheval is a poet, fiction writer, memoirist and translator who serves as the Zona Gale Professor of

English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her books include the poetry collection Cinema Muto, winner of a Crab Orchard Open Selection Award; The Alice Stories, winner of the Prairie Schooner Fiction Book Prize; the memoir Space, winner of the Alex Award from the American Library Association; and The Dogeater, winner of the Associated Writing Programs Award in Short Fiction.

 

Her collection America that Island off the coast of France won the Dorset Prize and is forthcoming from Tupelo Press.

 

As a translator, Kercheval specializes in Uruguayan poetry. Her translations include The Invisible Bridge: Selected Poems of Circe Maia (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015). She is also the editor of the anthology América invertida: An Anthology of Emerging Uruguayan Poets (University of New Mexico

Press, 2016).

 

Kercheval appearance at Ripon College is part of the Visiting Writers Series, partially supported by the Schang Family Visiting Writer Fund.
