Business Roof Collapse In Oshkosh
Oshkosh Police and Fire departments responded to a roof collapse at a business Sunday afternoon. It happened at Ye Old Goat vintage market about 4 pm. No one was inside the building when the roof collapsed and no one was injured. Officials believe heavy snow caused the roof to rail, but they are still trying to determine the exact cause. The store will be closed for the immediate future.
Discover The Mascoutin Valley Craft Beverage Trail
Similar to what was held when Ripon grabbed the spotlight for Around the Corner with John McGivern a segment of the Discover Wisconsin TV show featuring the Mascoutin Valley Craft Beverage Trail will get a sneak peak tonight at Vines and Rushes Winery in Ripon. “I believe we’re going to be there at 5 pm and we will have some members of Discover Wisconsin Ryan Haberman is going to be, Eric Paulson is going to be there who are some of the hosts along with some of the producers and we will be premiering that.” Ripon Chamber Executive Director Jason Mansmith says the episode will also features Stevens Point and La Crosse or some big craft beverage areas of the state. Food and beverages will be available to purchase.
Nine Eleven Mobile Exhibit Coming To Waupun
The Waupun Fire Department and Waupun Festivals are partnering to bring the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit to Waupun in June. The exhibit will be open from 12 to 8 pm on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th at Tanner Park . Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says the 9/11 exhibit allows folks to hear firsthand from FDNY firefighters of how events unfolded in front of them. “There’s actually a gentleman who was with FDNY that travels with the exhibit and is able to talk more in depth about what they saw and what they experienced on that day.” The high-tech, 53-foot trailer transforms into a 1,100 square foot exhibit, providing people an opportunity to explore artifacts from the towers and listen to documentary videos and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Donations are being sought to defray the $15,000 cost of bringing the Memorial to Waupun. Donations can be made at the Fire Department or Waupun Festivals websites.
Uecker Gets Then Gives Playoff Share Away
Milwaukee Brewers play-by-play announcer Bob Uecker turned a magnanimous gesture by Brewers players into one of his own. Players voted last November to give Uecker a full playoff share of $123,000. In turn Uecker donated the money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Milwaukee, Wounded Warriors and the Froedtert Cancer Center.
Thrasher Program Director Retiring
The Thrasher Opera House Corporation recently announced the impending retirement of Program Director Roby Irvin. He will retire on June 1st. Thrasher Executive Director Maria Dietrich says, “Roby has been with the organization since the resurrection of the opera house as a performing arts center in 1996.“ She says Roby has shaped the organization into a vibrant music hub presenting more than 40 concerts annually. Thrasher Development Director Rachael Avery will take on additional responsibilities when Irvin leaves. She will assume the new title of Programming and Development Director in June.
Second Annual Artists Palette Saturday In Markesan
The Markesan Resident Home will host its Second Annual Artists’ Palette this Saturday showcasing the work of Markesan High School Senior Art Students.. Stacey Harris is the Art Instructor at Markesan Middle and High School. “Since I just select from Senior student art work we have about 30 students this year so it’s kind of grown a little bit this year from last year since it’s our second artists’ palette event.” Harris says Markesan Resident Home ran with the event and were very helpful especially with the marketing. The show is from 2 to 4 pm Saturday. There will be a free gallery tour, food and beverages.
511 Traveler Information System Survey
The state’s Department of Transportation is asking users of the statewide 511 traveler information service to take a survey to help them develop a new system. Officials say in order to design the most effective and useful system possible, they want to hear from users to determine what features and functionality the new system will offer. The current system is available on the web, on the phone and through a phone app. It provides travel information ranging from travel alerts to winter road conditions. Those who would like to weigh-in can take the online survey through April 7th.
