FDL County Sales Tax Discussion

The Fond du Lac County Finance, Personnel, and Economic Development Committee will be discussing the future of the County’s half-percent sales tax this afternoon. The committee will consider two resolutions to recommend to the full County Board. One would repeal the sunset date for the tax, which is set to end on December 31st, 2021. The other resolution would use a portion of the revenue from the tax for property tax relief. The committee meets at 3:30 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Beaver Dam Man On Trial For Reckless Homocide

A jury trial is underway in Dodge County for a 29-year-old Beaver Dam man accused of supplying the drugs that led to an overdose death. Brian Larson is facing five felony counts including a first degree reckless homicide charge. Larson is suspected of providing the drugs that led to the April 2017 overdose death of 25-year-old Dakoda Kline of Juneau. Kline was found dead at a cemetery in Beaver Dam. The trial is scheduled through Friday.

Fire Damages Waupun Equipment Facility In Watertown

A fire at Waupun Equipment in Watertown early Monday morning has set the business back. There was major damage to the facility on Frohling Road. Eight fire departments battled the blaze, which was stoked by strong winds in freezing cold temperatures. Owner Greg Kast estimated damage at $1.1 million. There were no injuries. It may take the business months to recover from its losses.

Funding For Public Defenders And Prosecutors

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney was pleased to see a Republican proposal to increase pay for public defenders and provide funding for more assistant district attorneys in the state. The proposal would provide more prosecutors in the state including a couple for Fond du Lac County. “As far as prosecutors go this would ad about 61 new positions throughout the state two of which would end up here in Fond du Lac County, which we could desperately use. We’re supposed to have about 11 1/2 prosecutors and the state currently pays for five in Fond du Lac with Fond du Lac County paying for an additional three.” The proposal also include pay progress for prosecutors and would increase the pay for public defenders.

Dodge County Walkaway

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is looking for its third Huber inmate to fail to return on work release in little over a month. Thirty-nine-year-old Jennifer Petersen was serving a nine-month sentence in the County Jail on a theft charge. She was scheduled for release on April 11th. Her last known residence was in Portage. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 920-386-3726.

RAFD Chicken BBQ This Sunday

The Ripon Area Fire District’s annual Chicken BBQ is coming up this Sunday and tickets are going fast. Fire Chief Tim Saul says 2,500 half-chickens will be prepared for the BBQ. “They start early in the morning and they are done by 11 am by the time we serve. Again if you haven’t done out come out it’s a great, great event. You get visit the fire station see our equipment and have a great chicken dinner.” The dinner is from 11 am to 3 pm at the fire station. Tickets are $9 in advance, $10 at the door. There’s delivery, carry-outs, dine-in or drive through. Tickets are available at Bairds, Millers Tavern, Ripon Ace Hardware, Ripon City Hall, Ripon Drug and through fire department members.

Wallet Found In Green Lake

Police in Green Lake are looking for the person who lost a wallet with some money in it between the first of the month and February 20th. Before you call them and venture a guess you will be required to name the amount and denomination of the bills, and provide the general location of where it may have been lost. The amount of money is described as small to medium in total amount. Green Lake Police (920-294-6333) or the Green Lake City Hall (920-294-6912) can be contacted if you may be the rightful owner.
