Piecing Together Interstate 41 Pileup

Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say it will take time to piece together the sequence of events that led to a massive 131 vehicle pileup on Interstate 41 southbound in Neenah Sunday. They say the vast majority of vehicles are a total loss and can’t be driven. It will take several days for all of the vehicles to be released. One person was killed and 71 injured in the crash. Five of the injured were hospitalized.

Whiteout Conditions Cause Havoc On Area Roads

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the biggest problem for motorists were whiteout condition in rural and open areas of the county Sunday. “What really was causing the most problems was the high winds blowing that little bit of snow we got Sunday morning and it caused areas of the county to go into complete whiteout conditions.” From Saturday through 8 am Monday deputies responded to 13 stuck or disabled vehicles, 12 property damage crashes, 1 crash with moderate injuries, and 50 vehicle runoffs. The Sheriff’s Office had to close Interstate 41 northbound between County Highway N in the town of Eldorado and State Highway 26 in Winnebago County for approximately an hour and a half Sunday because of two semi tractor/trailer units that jackknifed in whiteout conditions near Lone Elm Rd.

Dodge County Strip Clubs Targeted In Sex Trafficking Probe Closed

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt is crediting good police work for the closure of two strip clubs suspected of sex-trafficking. The Wild Rose in Lebanon and the Hardware Store in Clyman both shut their doors following FBI raids and frequent law enforcement bar checks. Last year both were named in a federal complaint that alleged human trafficking had occurred inside those clubs. Schmidt says a business that operates legally will have no issues with police.

Middle Class Tax Cut

Governor Tony Evers may include a middle class tax cut in his budget address this week. Evers first veto was for a middle class tax cut the State Assembly had put together. State Representative Joan Ballweg of Markesan says it would have used $700 million in state surplus, money already taken from taxpayers. “That $700 million came out of taxpayers’ pockets, so if we are going to do a middle class tax cut let’s figure out how to do it and take that off the table and we don’t spend that money just because we’ve got it.” Governor Evers may include the tax cut in his budget, but he’s also looking at eliminating parts or all of agricultural and manufacturing tax credits, which help out the agricultural industry and manufacturers.
