The top seed in the WIAC tournament UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team was upset by UW-Stevens Point 76-56 on Thursday night. Oshkosh trailed the entire game and was held to its lowest point total and lowest 3-point shooting percentage of season.

 

UWSP advances to play UW-Platteville (17-10) in the tournament title game on Feb. 23 (5 p.m.) in Platteville.

 

Oshkosh had a 16-game win streak snapped in the loss but the team is still expected to receive one of the 21 at-large bids to the 64-team NCAA Division III Championship. Selections for the tournament will be announced at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25.

 

 

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 12 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, Khris Middleton hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds and the NBA-leading Milwaukee Bucks held off the Boston Celtics 98-97 on Thursday night.

 

Antetokounmpo added 13 rebounds, Middleton had 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, and Malcolm Brogdon had 15 points for the Bucks. They have won 15 of the last 17 games, including nine of the last 10, to improve to 44-14. The Bucks host Minnesota Saturday night.

The State Wrestling Tournament continues today in Madison as well as girls basketball second -round regional play. Tonight, Watertown Luther Prep plays at Berlin.

 

 

Ripon’s men’s basketball team received one All-Conference selection Thursday, as Senior guard Cal Schultz earned First Team honors. This marks the first All-Conference selection of Schultz’s career. A Business Management and Sports Management double major from Muskego, Wis., Schultz finished the season ranking 10th in the Midwest Conference in scoring with 16.3 points per game. He also ranks ninth in rebounding (5.9 rpg), 14th in assists (2.4 apg), eighth in steals (1.5 spg), and eighth in free throw percentage (.729). Schultz’s 407 points this year are tied for the 45th-most in a single season in program history. Schultz finished his career ranking 27th in program history for career points (1,052), while also tying the school record for both games played and consecutive games played (100).
