Two people are arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a Green Lake County residence. Green Lake County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mark Putzke says the search warrant was served Friday afternoon around 1:30pm at a residence on West Lakeview Drive in the Town of Marquette. Putzke says information had been gathered that an active methamphetamine Lab was at the residence. Law Enforcement discovered numerous items consistent with a meth lab and other drug paraphernalia. A 49-year-old Markesan man and 33-year-old Princeton man were taken into custody. Putzke says a 25-year-old Berlin female was also arrested on an unrelated warrant. The two males remain in the Green Lake County jail awaiting formal charges.

A Green Lake County man convicted of killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Nicholas Tuinstra was removed from the courtroom following his outburst of expletives and was later returned to hear his sentence in the deaths of Melissa Tuinstra and Justin Daniels. She had filed for divorce shortly before she and Daniels were fatally shot in September 2014 in Berlin. As prosecutors talked about alleged abuse of Melissa that had supposedly taken place in front of the couple’s 11-year-old daughter, Tuinstra lunged at the prosecution table and screamed profanities. Tuinstra maintains he’s innocent of the homicides. The victims’ family members say they’re relieved by the life sentence. Nicholas Tuinstra’s mother believes her son is innocent.

Brown County authorities are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the killing of a 31-year-old woman. The sheriff’s office wants anyone who may have had contact with victim Nicole VanderHeyden or suspect Douglass Detrie on the night of May 20 or morning of May 21 to contact investigators. Capt. David Poteat says investigators want to see if there is any evidence they may be missing. Detrie has been arrested but not formally charged in the death of VanderHeyden, his live-in girlfriend. The body of the mother of three was found May 21 in a Bellevue field, about three miles from the couple’s home. Prosecutors say VanderHeyden had been strangled and beaten. Detrie is being held on a $1 million bond.

A state audit finds Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources has been lax about monitoring large livestock farms and municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. A Legislative Audit Bureau report released Friday found the DNR didn’t consistently follow its own policies when sending enforcement letters about violations. It found the DNR only sent notices for 33 of the 558 instances they should have over the past decade. The audit also found staff hasn’t been electronically recording submissions of annual reports required of concentrated animal feeding operations, or CAFOs. Staff indicated they don’t have time to thoroughly review the reports, meaning areas of noncompliance could be slipping through the cracks. A DNR statement says it’s already recognized many of the issues identified and has been working to address them.

Wisconsin wildlife officials say hunters killed more turkeys this spring than last. The Department of Natural Resources said in a news release Friday that hunters registered 45,496 birds during the spring season, up 11 percent from the 2015 spring season. The agency issued 213,672 permits, up from 208,250 permits last year. The statewide success rate was 21.3 percent, up from 19.7 percent in 2015. DNR officials attributed hunters’ success to strong breeding activity after a mild winter and good weather conditions. Permits for the fall season are now available. That season runs from Sept. 17 to Nov. 18. The deadline for applying for a permit is Aug. 1.
