Fond du Lac County supervisors braved less than ideal travel conditions to approve a bond issue and other county business Tuesday night. Board Chairman Marty Farrell thanked them saying the bond sale had taken place Monday so the board needed to meet to approve the $28.3 million in borrowing for the county’s capital improvement projects. County Executive Al Buechel said they were expecting to get an interest rate of about 4 percent, but were fortunate to receive a rate of 2.88 percent. He noted the majority of the borrowing, about $21.5 million, would be for the new County Highway garage which will also house Senior Services, Sheriff’s cold storage, a shooting range and other county interests. The overall cost of that project will be $25.7 million. The board unanimously approved the borrowing. The board also approved a resolution thanking former county employees Jean Blackburn, Mick Fink, and Jean Heller for their long service to the county. Former Sheriff Fink retired last month after 38 years with the county. He received a standing ovation when he received his copy of the resolution.
