Five Killed In Snowmobile Accidents Over The Weekend

It was a deadly weekend for snowmobilers in Wisconsin with five deaths. According to the DNR in Calumet County on Lake Winnebago a snomobiler struck an ice crack and the sled flipped over killing its rider. Other fatal accidents occurred in Dunn County where a 28-year-old Boyceville man was killed, in Langlade County where a 41-year-old woman was killed in a collision with a car, in Forest County where a passenger was thrown from a sled and was hit by a second snowmobile, and in Iron County where a 43-year-old woman was killed in a collision with a semi.

Forty Vehicles Involved In Eau Claire County Accident

More than three dozen motorists in the Eau Claire found out over the weekend that you need to keep your distance and drive slower on snow-covered and slippery roads. Forty vehicles including semis were involved in a crash on I-94 Eastbound and Westbound near mile marker 85 Sunday afternoon. The State Patrol says seven people were injured and that included a person with life-threatening injuries. Traffic had to be re-routed during the accident in Eau Claire County.

Child Safety On Ripon Common Council Agenda

The Ripon Common Council this evening will discuss the safety of children going to school. Specifically that walk or bicycle the Barlow Park loop on their way to Barlow Park Elementary School. The loop was designed for vehicle drop-offs only. Letters dating back to 2001 show express a desire by parents and the school district to have children use sidewalks on Metomen Street or Newbury Street to get to the school safely. The Council will meet at 7 pm at the Ripon City Hall.

Ripon Senior Center Looking For New Digs

An official with the Ripon Senior Center says they are looking for a new location. Center Director Noreen Johnson says they need more than 823 square feet on the lower level of City Hall to accommodate their growing membership. She notes in January of 2018 they had 120 visitors to the center and this past month even with several days canceled because of weather 583. She says they could use a place that could also act as a type of community center with a multi-purpose room, commercial kitchens, offices, exercise rooms and ADA compliant parking. “We are looking at starting to fund raise or search or seek out a different place to build upon or move into and we are also looking for people who are interested in helping us in any way.” Johnson notes in 2017 more than 34 percent of Ripon’s population was 55-years of age or older and a little over 25 percent was 60-year-old or older.

FDL County Board Preview

The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will consider borrowing $28.3 million for capital improvement projects. Part of that will be for the construction of a new highway garage in Fond du Lac. The board will also be asked to approve authorization for county officials to apply for a Wisconsin Stewardship grant to fund resurfacing of a 2.5 mile stretch of the Mascoutin Valley State Trail between Eldorado and Rosendale. The board meets at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

FDL County GOP Opposes County Board Resolution

Fond du Lac County’s Republican Party is opposed to a resolution on the County Board’s agenda for tonight. It would put the board on record in favor of creating a nonpartisan procedure for the preparation of legislative and congressional redistricting plans. County GOP Chairman Rohn Bishop says, “The legislative maps have repeatedly been found to be constitutional and legal; this is nothing more than a cry baby attempt to remove the legislative map drawing responsibilities away from legislators who are held accountable by voters to a unelectable board, likely made up of liberal bureaucrats, and for that reason we oppose this resolution. ” He adds it’s a waste of time and has nothing to do with governing Fond du Lac County.

Fox Lake Teen One Toke Over The Line

A teen in Fox Lake has only himself to blame for being cited for smoking marijuana. He called the Dodge County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center to complain that he was feeling weird after smoking pot. The dispatcher was no dope, sending local police in response. The officers found the 16-year-old teen and his friends with marijuana. The teen was cited for possession.
