Winter Driving Kit

The communications and emergency management director for Fond du Lac County says there are times during the winter when travel isn’t advised. Bobbi Hicken says still some have to and if that’s the case make sure you allow yourself plenty of travel time and have a survival kit in your vehicle. “Make sure you are not in a crunch for time and that you know you are going to get there when you get there. Make sure you have a winter kit in your vehicle.” She says you should have blankets, mittens and gloves to keep you warm in case you get stranded. She also recommends a water, flashlight, charger for your phone. To help get you out if you get stuck, sand or kitty litter and a shovel would also come in handy. Hicken also recommends checking Wisconsin’s 511 website, app or calling 511 to check on winter road conditions.
