No Charges For Beaver Dam Man Involved In Fatal Accident

After a lengthy investigation involving several law enforcement agencies the Dodge County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to prosecute a 30-year-old Beaver Dam man for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. In August of 2017 Troy Kelm hit and killed 37-year-old Kayla Davis with his vehicle on Highway 151 while she was out of her vehicle trying to render aid to some accident victims. Kelm was unable to avoid striking her due to vehicles that were stopped at the scene including Davis’s. Although Kelm admitted to smoking marijuana the night before the accident a jury in August of 2018 found him not guilty of first offense operating while intoxicated. Police agencies and an Assistant Attorney General for the state reached the same conclusion that no criminal charges should be issued in the case. All of those involved in the lengthy investigation expressed their sympathies to Davis’s family.

Beaver Dam Police Officer Cleared In Shooting

The District Attorney’s Office in Dodge County has concluded that a veteran Beaver Dam Police officer was justified in shooting a 35-year-old Beaver Dam man last October. Officer Brian Linzenmeyer, a 17-year veteran of the department, was placed on non-disciplinary administrative leave while the County Sheriff’s Department conducted an investigation into the October 26th shooting. Linzenmeyer shot Richard Henke II in the legs during a call for a domestic disturbance. Henke was treated at Beaver Dam Community Hospital and later transferred to the UW-Hospital in Madison. An officer suffered minor injuries during the call to 510 Walnut Street.

Evers Will Work Towards Compromise

The minority leader for the Wisconsin State Senate says compromise is needed to make progress for the state. Senator Jennifer Shilling says Governor Tony Evers wants to work with the leaders of both parties. “He really wants to be a governor that brings people together and returns the focus of government back on the services for the people of Wisconsin. He talked about the importance of people over politics and wanting to look at ideas with common sense.” Shilling says Evers met with the Senate Democratic Caucus on Tuesday and said his priorities are schools, roads and health care. She says Governor Evers will give his State of the State Address next Tuesday.

Kids Use Of E Cigarettes Reaching Epidemic Proportions

While the number of kids smoking cigarettes continues to decline the number using vaping or e-cigarettes is reaching epidemic proportions. Sandy Bernier is the Tobacco Control Coordinator for the Fond du Lac County Health Department. She say more than 20 percent of kids in high school use e-cigarettes and the use of e-cigarettes increased by 154 percent from 2014 to 2018. So its, you know these are numbers when you heard the FDA come out and say we have an epidemic, then you have the Surgeon General come out and say we have an epidemic. You know we are in this now.” She says the marketing techniques prohibited for tobacco products don’t apply to e-cigarettes and most kids don’t realize how addictive the nicotine in e-cigarettes is. She recommends that any parent that would like to know more go to the tobacco is changing website.
