Berlin Hero

Amanda Osterberg says she’s glad she took training that helped her save the life of 5th grader at Berlin’s Clay Lamberton Elementary School last month. The teacher’s aide was working in the cafeteria when two students came up to her because their classmate Ben Griffin was choking. Ben was eating tater tots and inhaled one while laughing at someone’s joke. Amanda had gotten training last September on what to do. She bent him over and began slamming the palm of her hand between his shoulder blades. The food dislodged and he began breathing again. She says she didn’t know him before that, but does now. “Since this has happened I’ve obviously gotten to know him and spend some time with him he’s really a great kid. He’s really friendly, really chatty, he really enjoys telling his story.” She says kids in the cafeteria appreciated the effort as well they stood up and began cheering and clapping.
