Ripon Common Council Votes Down Reinstatement Of Committee

Ripon’s Common Council this week decided to leave its structure as is and not resurrect a Finance, Personnel and Government Affairs Committee. Alderperson Aaron Becker proposed bringing back the committee while the Council was wrestling with budget decisions last fall. After looking at the bylaws that eight cities of similar size had for similar committees, alderpersons felt bringing back the committee was unnecessary. They felt the committee would make some of their work redundant and the committee was not needed. Alderman Becker wasn’t present for the meeting due to the birth of a new daughter in his family.

Thiesfeldt Introduces Anti Human Trafficking Bill

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt has introduced legislation that will help crack down on human trafficking in Wisconsin. Under the bill truckers would be taught how to look for signs and report any suspicious activity related to human trafficking. He says there are more truckers than law enforcement on our roads. The state lawmaker from Fond du Lac says the bill will give truck drivers the tools and information they need to help combat human trafficking. Senator LaTonya Johnson will be introducing a companion bill in the State Senate. Thiesfeldt is looking for co-sponsors for his bill.
