Ripon Common Council Won’t Weigh In On County Sales Tax

9 January 2019 News

The Ripon Common Council won’t be sending an advisory resolution to the Fond du Lac County Board about ending the county’s sale tax after 2021. Council members Tuesday night denied Council President Aaron Becker’s request for a resolution that would ask the county to end the sales tax or put a binding referendum before voters about the sales tax. County Executive Al Buechel and County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell spoke to the board prior to their vote talking about the benefits of the sales tax. Buechel said no other cities or municipalities in the county have considered an advisory resolution like Ripon was. Regarding the sales tax Farrell told the Council, ” If you don’t want to be turned into a rust belt today you have to be proactive.” Alderperson Becker wasn’t present for the meeting. His wife gave birth to their second child, a daughter, Monday.
