Oshkosh Man Maintains Innocence In Child’s Death
The 28-year-old Oshkosh man suspected of shaking his 7-week-old son to death was arraigned in Winnebago County court Monday. Cory Lyons pled not guilty to a first degree reckless homicide charge. According to the criminal complaint the child’s mother left him with Lyons on November 29th when she went to work. Lyons told authorities he became frustrated with the baby’s crying and shook the infant five or six times not supporting his head while he was doing it. An autopsy found the child died of brain injuries. Lyons is being held in the Winnebago County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
Threats At Neenah High School Dealt With
Neenah Police have tracked down students responsible for posing threats at the Neenah High School. One student was responsible for pulling fire alarms at the school on two separate days. Police say other students made it worse by creating an impression on social media that a shooting would occur. The threats were unfounded and those who were responsible have been dealt with. Neenah Police did increase their presence at the school, but Tuesday was a normal day at Neenah High School.
Narcan Training Coming Up
Free Narcan training will be provided at several locations in Fond du Lac County this year. The training sessions are for anyone who is affected by opioid use. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they are teaming up with Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County and the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin. She says Drug Free Communities works on a four pillar approach. “Which has harm reduction efforts in it and that’s a piece that the Health Department is part of. So we work to reduce the harm in the community. One of the ways that we do that is through Narcan trainings.” Free Narcan kits will be provided to participants. The first session will be at the Forest Mall in Fond du Lac on Tuesday, January 29th at 6 pm and the second on Monday March 11th at 6 pm at the Campbellsport Public Library. Hintz And Ballweg Sworn In For New Terms
A couple of area state representatives were among those sworn in for two years terms in the State Assembly Monday. State Representative Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh represents the 54th Assembly District. He began his seventh term and was re-elected Assembly Democratic Leader for the two-year session. State Representative Joan Ballweg of Markesan began her eighth term representing the 41st State Assembly District. She will serve as the Assembly Chair for the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform. She will serve on several other committees as well.
Human Trafficking Awareness Event Friday In Oshkosh
This Friday volunteers from Damascus Road in partnership with the Oshkosh Police Department will be gathering at Opera House Square from 11 am to 1 pm in honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Supporters will be holding signs encouraging motorists to honk their horns in order to make some noise about the issue. This is the 9th year Damascus Road will be hosting the rally. Damascus Road is an organization tat raises awareness and assists victims of human trafficking in the Fox Valley and throughout Wisconsin. Last year 99 victims in the area received direct assistance. Friday is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
Feyen Office Hours In Town Of Utica Next Monday
State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac will be hosting office hours at the Utica Town Hall on County Road FF in Oshkosh next Monday evening. The Senator will be available to talk with constituents from the 18th Senate District about issues that are important to them and to field requests for assistance on state issues. He will be there from 6 to 7 pm. Senator Feyen will also be meeting with the town board members to gather input on their priorities for the state budget and legislative session.
