Ripon Business Improvement District
Downtown Ripon Manager Craig Tebon says they are in the midst of reorganizing the Business Improvement District bylaws and operating plan. The Ripon Common Council approved the operating plan for 2018 in December. The BID board was reformed in August and had only held several meetings up to that point. Ripon Mayor Gary Will called it a work in progress and Tebon agrees with that statement. ” We will have a new operating plan probably February or March that will be introduced just to try and make things more specific, more detailed.” In the meantime more members are needed for the BID board of directors. Three members are needed and Tebon says they should come from across the district not just be business owners from Watson Street because it is a downtown revitalization program. He says they would also encourage women to apply for the openings because all their members are male at this point. Interested persons should contact the Ripon City officials.

The Executive Director of the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents to the free watch party at Vines and Rushes Winery next Wednesday. Chamber Executive Director Jason Mansmith says even those who know a lot about Ripon will learn some new things. “We at the Chamber of Commerce were just really excited to kind of work with that team from Around the Corner. Just a lot of fun and they were super impressed with the community and we can’t wait to kind of debut that coming up on that night.” The watch party starts at 6 pm next Wednesday night and those attending will have the opportunity to purchase food and beverages from Vines and Rushes Winery during the event. The segment on Ripon will air the following evening at 7 pm on Wisconsin Public Television.
Utility Scams
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection warns residents that utility scams can hit you any time of the year, but during the winter it carries more of an implied threat. Jerad Albracht says the majority of the scams usually involve Wisconsin Public Service and WE Energies customers both residential and business. “When you’re in winter time no one wants to lose electricity or gas whatever you rely on for heat and in the case of small businesses which also get a lot of these threatening calls there’s been a lot of business being generated this time of year they can’t stand for an electrical outage, that’s a big dent in their business.” Albracht says your utility will never call you out of the blue to tell you you are behind on services, need to make a payment for repaired or replaced equipment and threaten that they are going to disconnect you. He advises hanging up and if you are unsure call your utility.
