Ice Safety
28 December 2018 News
Warmer than normal temperatures and rain have made already unsafe ice on lakes and rivers even more dangerous. Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says they got fortunate when two kids fell through the ice on the Mill Pond a couple years ago. “Two years ago we had two kids fall through the ice and got themselves out in the Mill Pond. We’ve been fortunate, but this is the time of year people like to venture out on the ice and take their chance. Just because the ice looks like its safe doesn’t necessarily mean it is.” He recommends letting people know where you’re going to be if you are going out on the ice and what you are doing, taking a cell phone with you and take precautions. He says the biggest thing is to know where your kids are at so you know they aren’t out on the ice.
