Sports from Wayne Mausser

Aaron Jones ran for career highs of 145 yards and two scores, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams connected for two touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers beat the Miami Dolphins 31 to 12 Sunday.

The Packers (4-4-1) pulled away in the second half, sandwiching scoring drives around cornerback Bashaud Breeland’s interception deep in Miami territory. Green Bay went ahead 28-12 on Adams’ 25-yard touchdown catch with 7:24 left in the third quarter.

Rookie Jason Sanders tied a Dolphins franchise record with four field goals, but Miami (5-5) couldn’t find the end zone. The Dolphins squandered another opportunity on the game-opening drive after Brock Osweiler fumbled away a shotgun snap.

The Packers cashed in on that turnover, too, when Rodgers and Adams connected on their first touchdown for a 7-0 lead.

But Jones, who finished with 15 carries, gave Green Bay some much-needed balance.

A slashing style and an explosive burst through the hole make Jones a threat to bust a big run on any carry. He accounted for 54 yards of total offense on the opening drive alone.

Jones added a career-long 67-yarder to give him 96 yards on four carries in the first quarter alone.

Osweiler was 23 of 37 for 213 yards in his fifth start for the injured Ryan Tannehill. Miami had 294 yards of total offense, an admirable effort given that they were missing three starting offensive linemen.

But Osweiler was sacked six times, including three straight plays late in the fourth quarter.

Rodgers was 19 of 28 for 199 yards. Adams had four catches for 57 yards.

A defense already missing CB Kevin King (hamstring) lost two more starters in the first half when S Kentrell Brice departed with an ankle injury and linebacker Nick Perry limped off with a knee injury. Brice (knee) and Perry (ankle) had been on the injury report last week for other ailments. … OL Lucas Patrick (concussion protocol) did not return after taking a hard hit while returning a short kickoff in the first quarter.

The Packers, now 4-4-1, travel to Seattle in a Thursday night match-up. The Seahawks lost on the road to the Rams on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, first-place Chicago won at home over the Lions, 34-22, to improve to 6-3. Minnesota, 5-3-1, had a bye.

In Sunday Night Football, Dallas won at Philadelphia, 27-20 and tonight the Giants play on the road against the 49rrs.

In the NBA, the Bucks bounced back after a road loss to the Lakers to win at Denver over the Nuggets Sunday night, 121-114. Brooks Lopez led Milwaukee with 28 points, including a career-best eight 3-pointers, to lead four Bucks in double figures. Milwaukee imrpoves to 10-3.

The Sioux Falls Skyforce (5-0) captured a 123-105 victory over the
Wisconsin Herd (1-2) on Saturday evening at the Sanford Pentagon. Rodney Purvis
triggered the surge off the bench, with 28 points (7-12 3P), eight assists and seven rebounds for Sioux Falls. With the win, the Skyforce are off to their best start since the 2012-13 season.

Milwaukee Bucks two-way player Jaylen Morris (12 points) and James Young (12 points)combined for 24 points, while Cinmeon Bowers (13 points, nine rebounds) led the Herd in scoring off-the-bench.

Wisconsin (1-2) is back at home on Wednesday, November 14 to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (2-1).

Two top-ranked, undefeated Fond du Lac high school football teams battled in WIAA semifinal football games Friday.

But only St. Mary’s Springs will move on to Madison after a 41-12 win over Lake Country Lutheran in Division 5. The 13-0 Ledgers play Stratford Thursday afternoon at 4:00. In Division 1, Fond du Lac’s season finished dramatically, but not in the way the Cardinals hoped for— a 22-21 overtime loss decided by a gutsy Kimberly 2-point conversion. The 12-1 Papermakers will be going for their sixth straight state championship as they play Muskego Friday afternoon at 4:00. All state final games are at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
