Level 3 of the high school football playoffs on Friday night saw two area teams advance. Both Fond du Lac and St. Mary’s Springs remain undefeated s both teams defeated No. 3 seeds. Both teams are also top-ranked.
At Fruth Field in Fond du Lac, it was a Cardinals showdown with Fond du Lac topping Sun Prairie 33-7. Running back Eban Sauer ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for Fond du lac, who get a rematch from a season-opening win against No. 2 Kimberly in the state semifinal game at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. The Papermakers defeated top-ranked Bay Port 38-20.
At Lomira, St. Mary’s Springs defeated the No. 3 Amherst Falcons in a low-scoring, penalty-ridden game that left the Ledgers on top 12-0.
This is the second time this season that the Ledgers have shut out Amherst. In Week 2, Springs traveled to Amherst and shut out the Falcons 34-0. This time, it wasn’t as pretty of a victory.
The Ledgers take on Lake Country Lutheran in West Bend next week. Lake Country Lutheran is coming off a 47-15 win over No. 3 Horicon/Hustisford.
The Ledgers hope to return to Camp Randall and win a state title for a second straight year.
