The Boston Celtics went outside and stayed there while knocking off the last of the NBA’s unbeatens with a barrage of 3-pointers. The Celtics set a franchise record for 3-pointers with 24 in a 117-113 win over the Bucks on Thursday night, handing Milwaukee its first loss of the season.
Kyrie Irving led Boston with 28 points, including six 3-pointers as the Celtics shattered the club record of 19 and came up one short of the NBA record.
Al Horford also scored 18, hitting four from beyond-the-arc, and Marcus Morris made five 3-pointers to finish with 17 points.
Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to the lineup after missing one game while in the NBA’s concussion protocol and led Milwaukee with 33 points and 11 rebounds. The Bucks drop to 7-1
The Packers continue to get ready for the Patriots at New England on Sunday evening. Veteran defensive back Tramon Williams has found a new home in the secondary. In the wake of the Packers trade of safety Ha-Ha Clinton Dix to Washington earlier in the week, Williams will take over that spot. Williams said Thursday he’s ready for the challenge, noting that former Packer great Charles Woodson was asked to make the same move late in his career and played very well. He said it’s all part of the game.
In Thursday Night Football, 49ers quarterback Nick Mullins was outstanding in his NFL debut, leading the 49ers to a 34-3 home victory over the Oakland Raiders. Mullins completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
