Last Meeting About FDL County Sales Tax Tonight
Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel and the County Board’s Finance Committee will wrap up their series of information meetings on the County’s half-percent sale tax tonight. A meeting will be held at 6 pm at the Fond du Lac City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac. The tax sunsets at the end of 2021 and the County is considering repealing the sunset. The tax has helped the County fund over $65 million in loans to businesses and municipalities that created and retained over 4,800 jobs and leveraged over $1 billion in investment. It has also kept more than $20 million in road projects from going on to property tax bills. Previous information meetings about the sale tax have been held in Campbellsport, Waupun and Ripon.
FDL Man Waives Preliminary Hearing On Shooting Charges
The 18-year-old Fond du Lac man who accidentally shot another teen while cleaning his AK-47 assault rifle recently waived his preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac County court. Trenton Hammarlund was then arraigned on first degree recklessly endangering safety, a marijuana possession charge and four misdemeanor charges for the October 20th incident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. While responding to the incident police also found containers of marijuana, over 100 prescription pills, and more than $7,000 in cash.
Michigan Man Bound Over For Trial On FDL County Stabbing Charges
The 36-year-old Iron River, Michigan man suspected of stabbing two people at a home on the east side of Fond du Lac has been bound over for trial. Joseph Aleman was in Fond du Lac County court for a preliminary hearing Thursday. He is facing multiple counts of substantial battery, disorderly conduct, and bail jumping for the October 20th incident. When officers arrived they found two people who had been stabbed in the hands and forearms. They were taken to St. Agnes Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police suspect the altercation was drug-related. Aleman is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
Flu Shot Before The Holidays
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller is urging residents to get their flu shot before the Christmas holidays. She says it is not to late to get vaccinated against the flu. Mueller points out we see a lot of people during the holidays that we don’t normally see and if you haven’t had a flu shot you run the risk of getting the flu or if you are developing symptoms giving it to them. “You know with us getting together with larger groups of individuals. People of all different ages and people with all different underling conditions it is very important for us to remember to get that flu vaccine.” In addition to the County Health Department flu shots are available through health care providers, pharmacies and many stores.
Donation To The United Way Serves Many Causes
The Ripon Area United Way could use donations to help it make its $90,000 campaign goal. Board of Directors President Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says they typically see more donations during the holidays. “We’re closing in on the end of the year and people typically are more generous at the end of the year so we’re hoping for a bump now. Things have been kind of slow the last couple of weeks.” Puhlmann-Becker says the campaign actually goes into early next year. The Ripon Area United Way helps fund 21 different agencies that provide services in the area.
