Oshkosh Man Charged For Stabbing Incident
A 24-year-old Oshkosh man suspected of stabbing a neighbor in a multi-unit home on West New York Avenue is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide. Cash bond was set at $750,000 when Dustin Rosenkranz recently made his initial appearance in Winnebago County court. Rosenkranz allegedly stabbed the 28-year-old man in the neck and chest with a pocket knife during a dispute over the use of a phone. Rosenkranz will be back in court for a preliminary hearing next Monday. The incident occurred on December 1st.
Kaukauna Man Arraigned Over Fatal Punching Incident
A jury trial is scheduled next February for the 34-year-old Kaukauna man suspected of delivering a fatal punch to an Oshkosh man. Christopher Barry was recently arraigned in Winnebago County court. He pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the death of 47-year-old Steven Mallas who he punched in the jaw over $18 taken in a bar. Mallas suffered a broken jaw and died from complications from that battery in October. The incident happened on a sidewalk outside the bar. The trial is scheduled for February 5th.
Getting Back Up On The Ice
The dive team leader for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department says if you should ever fall through the ice on a lake or other water body during the winter try to remain calm. Sergeant Jeff Bonack says the shock of the cold water is going to cause you to hyperventilate. “There is a point in time that your body is getting acclimated to that water, that very very cold water. Your breathing is going to be hyper at that time, get a hold of your breathing, control your breathing.” Next you need to get your legs to the water’s surface as you extend your arms on the ice. Bonack says they you need to kick your feet as hard as you can and “porpoise” your way back up on the ice. He says to go out the same way you came in because the ice ahead is probably thin like the ice you went through. He says it won’t be easy because your clothes will be waterlogged.
Sheboygan Woman Struck By Car
Sheboygan Police say a 59-year-old Sheboygan woman was hit by a vehicle while crossing a city street Sunday night. She was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. It happened in a crosswalk at 12th and Clara. The driver of a northbound car wasn’t able to see her and hit her when she stepped into the crosswalk. She was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Froedtert.
Congressman Grothman Comments On Committee Assignments
With the balance of power shifted in the House of Representatives, Congressman Glenn Grothman is hoping to get the same three committee assignments he’s had during his first two terms in office. Grothman serves on the House’s Labor and Education, Government Oversight, and Budget Committees. He feels the ranking Democrats who served alongside him on those committees may be of help in getting him reassigned, but he says he is at the mercy of the now Democratic-controlled Congress. Beyond that Grothman would still like to see this Congress do some welfare reform. “I of course ran hoping to do something on welfare reform. Democrats in general feel that the current welfare systems is not generous enough they want more money to go into it. So we will see what happens there.”
People Generous About Donating To Ripon Food Pantry
Unlike other food pantries this time of the year, the Ripon Food Pantry doesn’t find its donations depleting. Many pantries find the Christmas season is a time of need when supplies dwindle. Ripon Food Pantry Director Amy Pollesch says they’ve been fortunate because people in the Ripon area are incredible about donating. “We are sending out between 1,000 and 1,200 brown paper bags of groceries every 30 days and we are always accepting donations in the form of non-perishable food items.” She points out they also have freezer space for meat donations. Pollesch says people have been good about advocating for them, which has resulted in corporate sponsorships as well.
Cookies And Christmas Music In Ripon Today
Ripon Public Library Children’s Librarian Linda DeCramer will be getting into the spirit of the season in a big way today. She will be participating in what the Senior Center is calling a cookie extravaganza at the Center at 10:30 this morning. “I’ll be doing a cookie themed intergenerational event at the Senior Center on Tuesday at 10:30 in the morning and then also at 6:30 on Wednesday evening.” There will be music and stories, and cookie decorating and eating. Also tonight there will a Christmas Concert at the Library at 6:30 featuring the new piano purchased with funds donated by Elizabeth Olson and Amanda and John Hughes. DeCramer will be one of those singing Christmas carols. The public is welcome at both events.
Dog’s Best Friend Columbus Firefighters
Columbus Firefighters used extension ladders and a human assembly line of rescuers to get dog out of the icy waters of Crawfish River Saturday morning. The dog chased geese into the river and crashed through thin ice. A man tried to rescue the dog, but fell through too. He was able to make it out. A rescue boat couldn’t be used in the heavily wooded area. Firefighters used the ladder to get to the dog and wrapped it in turnout gear before it was handed over to a local veterinary clinic’s staff.
