Preventing Holiday Thefts

When it comes to securing your holiday packages whether in a vehicle or home keep them locked up tight and out of sight. Town of Ripon Police Chief Howard Stibb says a lot of people drive SUV’s so there are not trunks to stash your Christmas packages in when you are out shopping, so do your best to conceal them. “It’s always good to lock your vehicle and try and keep packages away from windows. Try not to put them in the back seat because people are going to see things there quicker. Keep it in the back and keep it as low as you possibly can that way you are not inviting trouble to come.” Chief Stibb also recommends keeping your home locked when you are away and keeping security lights on around the outside. He says many package thefts are crimes of opportunity so an unlocked car door is practically an invitation to a thief.
