Risky Weather
Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke says there will be times during a winter storm when it is simply best to stay off of roads. He says if law enforcement and public safety officials are advising to stay off the roads it is a good time to heed their warnings. “If you can stay home and avoid going on the roads that’s your first line of defense. Any time you are going out in this type of weather whether it’s snowing or the event is just over you are taking some risk and some chance.” Janke says if you do go out when it is bad use your seat belt and drive slow. He points out posted speed limits are for normal driving conditions. He also recommends checking the 511 Wisconsin website, which can give you the driving conditions on state roads.
Find Out About Return Or Exchange Policies First
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection urges shoppers to pay particular attention to a store’s return and exchange policy this holiday season. Jerad Albracht says there are a lot of door buster and one day sales and return polices can vary with those sales. “We want people to pay attention to those things up front when they are making purchases. Feel free to ask a store about its policies before you make an actual purchase.” Items you buy online or by phone may have different return policies. Albracht recommends asking questions about their policies before you make a purchase. Find out if the retailer or whether you pay the fees for returns and if return shipping fees are deducted from the refund amount.
