What Switching To Lakeside Municipal Court Means For Ripon
If the City of Ripon joins Lakeside Municipal Court the court will be handling municipal ordinance violations. Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says Fond du Lac County Circuit Court would still handle criminal cases, but Lakeside Municipal Court would be responsible for hearing cases involving municipal ordinance violations. “This court basically handles all of our ordinance violations so that includes all of ordinance traffic citations as well as all of our ordinance violations concerning city ordinances. So things like littering or disorderly conduct or those types of things would also be handled through this court. So anything that we issue a ticket for.” Wallner says by switching to Lakeside Municipal Court the City will save money because the court would hear cases in Ripon, which saves on officer overtime and having to travel to Fond du Lac for court. The Common Council is considering approving the change to Lakeside Municipal Court.
Ripon Common Council Preview
The Ripon Common Council could approve a couple of changes for the City tonight. The Council will consider creating an ordinance that would allow it to join the Lakeside Municipal Court. Currently the City has Fond du Lac County Circuit Court handle its municipal ordinance violations. The City Police Chief and City Attorney are both recommending the change. The Council will also consider negotiating with Grand Valley Inspection Services to handle its building inspections. To do so it also has to terminate the agreement it currently has with Kunkel Engineering for those services. The Council meets at 7 pm at the Ripon Municipal Building.
Cyber Monday Safety
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection urges residents to take a few steps before entering the Christmas shopping frenzy that is known as “Cyber Monday.” Jerad Albracht says first and foremost make certain your computer has the necessary security to protect itself against potential malware. “So check out your operating system and anti-virus software and get them up to date before you even start doing any research or purchasing so you’re patching holes that hackers might make their way through.” He also recommends only going to secure sites. Albracht says those sites begin with https, which means information is secure and encrypted to protect your financial and banking information. Another tip is to use a credit card in case you have to dispute charges.
United Way Sponsorship Of Imagination Library Benefits Children In Ripon Area
One of the programs the Ripon Area United Way sponsors helps young children in the community develop a love of reading. The United Way has teamed up with Dolly Parton’s Foundation for the Imagination Library literacy program. Through it the parents of 253 children in the Ripon area receive new books each month. Jill Puhlman-Becker is a reading specialist for the Ripon Area School District. She says it is a wonderful program for those ranging from newborns to five years of age. “As they become part of the program they get a book home every month that parents can read to them and that is one of the most important things parents can do to get children ready for reading later on when they get to school.” She says the stories come with notes on the inside back flap that parents can use to extend learning from those particular books. Those who are interested in participating in the program can register at the Imagination Library website.
