Deer Harvest Numbers Released

Hunters took over 13,000 more deer in Wisconsin during the opening weekend of the nine-day gun deer season than they did in 2017. The state’s DNR has released its preliminary harvest numbers which show 118,670 deer were harvested compared to the 105,216 during the opening weekend last year. Area counties Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara and Winnebago counties all saw increased harvest numbers of 22 percent to 32 percent. Harvest totals included more than 1,300 (1,342) in Dodge, over 1,400 in both Fond du Lac (1,434) and Green Lake (1,425) counties, over 2,600 (2,616) in Marquette, more than 2,200 (2,239) in Waushara and 617 deer in Winnebago County.
