Snow Helps Out Deer Hunters Efforts

A DNR Conservation Warden says fresh snow cover can help out deer hunters during the opening weekend of the gun-deer season. Bill Hankee says if you have some fresh snow on the ground you can tell how recent a deer’s tracks are. He says if there is enough snow on the ground it provides a better contrast and the deer are also easier to see. The opening weekend of nine-day season sets the tone for the annual harvest.

Hunters Reminded Not To Trespass

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says his department gets quite a few complaints about trespassing during the gun-deer season. Schmidt reminds hunters that according to state law you need permission to hunt on another person’s land even if you shot a deer on public land and it ended up on private land. On the other hand property owners are required to properly post at least two signs per 40 acres advising hunters not to trespass. Trespassing carries a $263 fine with it.

Winnebago Mental Health Institute First To Go Live With New Records System

Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh is the first of seven state treatment facilities using a new electronic health records system. Department of Health Services Secretary Linda Seemeyer says the new system will streamline the access and exchange of critical information. The state has a 10-year $33 million contract with Cerner to provide support for the DHS Connect system. All DHS facilities will be using the new system by the end of 2020.
