A DNR conservation warden recommends the basics to keep you safe this gun-deer season. Conservation Warden Bill Hankee says blaze orange or pink is required to cover the upper half of your body so other hunters can see you when they are targeting a deer out in the woods. “Have to be visible not faded blaze orange. It can’t be your grandfather’s hunting jacket from the 1970s, it has got to be something that is fairly new and visible and that is for keeping you safe and also so other hunters can identify you when they are out in the field and choosing their shots.” It also reminds hunters to keep in mind the acronym TABK or Treat every firearm as if it were loaded, Always practice safe muzzle control, Be sure of your target and beyond, and Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. The nine-day gun deer season starts Saturday morning and runs through the following weekend.
