On average Fond du Lac County has 2.5 winter storm events each Winter with the potential for ice storms and extreme cold events. County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken recommends having a plan and a supply kit in your home and vehicle. she says Winter Awareness Week is a good time to make those types of preparations. “So this is when people should be getting their vehicle ready for Winter having that Winter kit in their vehicle in case they do get stranded. If we have an ice event make sure that there is enough water and non-perishable food in your home that you can sustain yourself for a couple of days.” A winter supply kit should include items such as, food, water, flashlight, blanket, and non-perishable food. A vehicle kit could include a snow shovel, extra hats and gloves, as well as sand or kitty litter to help with traction in the event you get stuck.
