Eight Area Counties Denied Individual Federal Disaster Insurance

Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jefferson, Ozaukee and Washington counties did not qualify for individual federal disaster assistance in the wake of storm and flood damage. The Federal Emergency Management Agency review did determine residents of Marquette County were eligible for the individual assistance. On October 18th President Trump approved the public assistance portion for 14 counties including Adams, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette.

There was a male victim and one person was taken into custody, but on unrelated charges. Sheriff Schmidt says there is no threat to the public. No names were released.

New Diverging Diamond Interchange Opening

The state’s Department of Transportation says the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at State Highway 441 and Oneida Street or US Highway 10 in Winnebago and Calumet counties opens to traffic Saturday today. The interchange has been closed since August 1 for reconstruction. The Oneida Street interchange is the first Divering Diamond Interchange in northeast Wisconsin. Oneida Street handles large volumes of traffic moving to and from State Highway 441. During the morning peak hour, more than 825 vehicles per hour are projected to turn left from northbound Oneida Street onto westbound 441. The new interchange will provide a safer and more efficient way to meet the needs of all road users.

Pizza And Fire Safety

Fire departments in Ripon and Waupun will be delivering pizzas tonight and checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in homes to make sure they are working. The Ripon Area Fire District is teaming up with ACE Hardware and Roadhouse Pizza and the Waupun Fire Department with Pizza Ranch. In Ripon there will be a random selection and some orders will be delivered with the chance to get a free pizza if your detectors are working. In Waupun they will be delivering the pizzas with a portion of sales going toward the purchase of safety equipment for the department. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says, “Kids get quite a kick out of watching the fire truck roll up and deliver food.” Both promotions are tied into the end of Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning. Fire departments usually remind residents during the time change to replace batteries in their detectors and replace the detectors if they are not working.

Time Change Reminder

We lost an hour in the spring when Daylight Saving Time began, now we get it back early Sunday morning when it ends. It is time to “Fall Back” or set our clocks back an hour. Fire departments also remind residents that it is a good time to replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace those detectors if they don’t work.
