Oshkosh North High School Placed In Lock Down During Search For Student

Oshkosh North High School was locked down Thursday morning due to a student’s behavior and the possibility that student might be armed. The mother of the 16-year-old student went to see a counselor at the school Wednesday about the student’s erratic behavior and told the counselor the student had shot off an AR-15-style rifle at the family’s property in the Town of Oshkosh. The counselor spoke with a school resource officer who advised the mother of the student to report the behavior to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. Thursday Police found out the student had gone to school, but wasn’t in class and the student’s mother hadn’t notified the Sheriff’s Department about the recent incident. The counselor found out from the mother that the rifle may be missing from the family‘s residence. The school was placed in a hard lock down at 9:20 am. The Sheriff’s Department found the student near Oshkosh Correctional by tracking the student’s cell phone. No weapon had been taken to the school. The student was taken to a hospital for treatment and the lock down was lifted at 10:15 am.

Oshkosh Police say Wednesday a school counselor reported the student was involved in an incident involving a firearm in the Town of Oshkosh. A parent of the student was notified and asked to report the incident to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. Thursday Police found out the student was on school grounds, the parent hadn’t notified the Sheriff’s Department about the recent incident, and the firearm may be missing from the student’s residence. The school was placed in a hard lock down at 9:20 am. The Sheriff’s Department found the student off school grounds. No one was injured and there was no danger to the public. The lock down was lifted at 10:15 am.
