The state’s Department of Justice and Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case. Sentencing has been scheduled for December 17th.
Senator Johnson Says Immigration System Is Horribly Broken
The Central American Immigrant Caravan may be loosing steam, but a federal lawmaker from Wisconsin is determined to do something about incentives that allow illegal immigrants to stay in the country by claiming “Credible Fear.” Senator Ron Johnson chairs the Homeland Security Committee in the US Senate. He says too many of those immigrants are using that claim to stay here. “Well over 90 percent never get sent back and then they use social media and that attracts more unaccompanied children and now we are doing the same thing with families because of a resettlement agreement under the Flores Decision and we don’t want to separate families, nobody does and as a result we are forced to catch and release.” Johnson says our immigration system is horribly broken and he’s working on a bill to do something about it.
Congressman Grothman Clears The Air On Pre-existing Conditions Issue
As he campaigns for reelection Congressman Glenn Grothman is clearing the air about things being said in TV ads by his opponent and his opponent’s backers. The incumbent representing the 6th Congressional District says he is not working to deny people with pre-existing health conditions access to health care insurance. “Let’s set the record straight. I am for covering pre-existing conditions for health insurance and I voted that way on two separate plans to replace Obamacare in the last two years.” Democrat Dan Kohl is challenging the Republican incumbent in the November 6th election.
UW FDL Anniversary Celebration Slated
Early next month officials at the UW-Fond du Lac will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a celebration in the University Commons. The County Board has passed a proclamation congratulating the university, which County Executive Al Buechel will present to UW officials. Buechel says the County petitioned the Governor, the Legislature, and the Board of Regents to place a two-year campus in Fond du Lac back in the 60s. Then the County provided the land and money for construction of the buildings that were needed. “The County Airport would be where the campus is today. We bought some additional land there and then we agreed to spend $5.2 million to build all the buildings that needed to be built there so that the UW-System would staff it.” Over 25,000 students have been educated on the campus over those 50 years. Buechel says everyone is invited to the anniversary celebration at the campus on Friday, November 2nd which will run from 5 to 7 pm with a ceremony at 6 pm.
