Duck Hunters Involved In Fatal Boating Accident Identified
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department have released the names of the two duck hunters whose boat capsized on the Fox River south of Princeton Saturday. Fifty-two-year-old Thomas Zodrow of Princeton and 47-year-old Daniel Verch of Berlin became separated when high wind and waves capsized their boat. Rescuers found Zodrow dead in the water. Verch and a dog that was with them managed to make it back to shore where he called 911.
Shooting In FDL
Police in Fond du Lac are investigating the shooting of a 19-year-old Fond du Lac man. It happened Saturday night in the 400 block of Forest Avenue. Police were checking on a report about a person that was yelling to call 911. The found the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Agnes Hospital with a non-life threatening wound. Police say it wasn’t a random act of violence and the public is not in danger. A weapon was not recovered.
FDL Police Seeking Axe Wielding Suspect
It sounds like a plot for a horror film, but Fond du Lac Police are looking for a man who was wielding an axe Saturday evening in the 100 block of East Johnson Street. When officers arrived they found two people who had been stabbed in the hands and forearms. The victims were taken to St. Agnes Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Meanwhile Police are looking for 36-year-old Joseph Aleman of Fond du Lac. He ran from the scene before they arrived. Police believe he was armed with a pocket knife or some type of edged weapon. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Fond du Lac Police at 920-906-5555.
Human Trafficking Presentation In Berlin Tonight
The Boys & Girls Club Tri-County Area in Berlin is hosting an Anti-Human Trafficking Community Presentation and Panel tonight from 5:30 to 7 pm. Abby Persons an anti-human trafficking specialist with Outagamie County will give a presentation followed by a panel that includes Outagamie County Sheriff’s Sergeant Adam Nagel, Rhianna Zuleger of ASTOP, Green Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Scott Cody, and Corporal Jessica Schraeder of the Berlin Police Department. Amy Bartol of the Boys & Girls Club says human trafficking isn’t as far away as you would think. She says, “Highway 41 actually serves as one of the transportation routes for traffickers to transport victims so from Berlin that is only 18 miles away. So it is a lot closer than you would expect.” Bartol says they would like to give parents the tools to recognize the problem and prevent it. Space Heater Safety
Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says with the heating season comes some fire hazards you might not think about other times of the year. For instance alternative heat sources like space heaters. Newer ones are designed to automatically shut off if they are knocked over. But DeMaa says even if you refrain from placing them around combustible materials they can still be a hazard if you plug them into an extension cord or power strip. He says, “Anything that is getting plugged into those powers strips that the power strip t is rated for the amount of current that the device is going to draw. On space heaters people need to make sure that they are plugging those directly into a wall outlet.” He also recommends avoiding the over use of extension cords when you start putting up your holiday lighting displays.
Drivers Needed To Drive Veterans To Medical Appointments
The Fond du Lac County Veterans Service Office is currently looking for two to three volunteer drivers to transport veterans to VA medical appointments. Drivers must have a clean driving history and be eligible to drive under the County’s Transportation Policy. Days and hours will vary. Drivers would transport between one and five veterans on any given day. You must be comfortable driving to VA hospitals and clinics in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Appleton, Cleveland (WI) and Beaver Dam.
