The Executive Director of the American Red Cross’s Northeastern Wisconsin chapter says they are waiting to see what type of response is needed for Hurricane Michael before they send out volunteers. He says, “Still very much in the search and rescue mode for individuals and we’ve had about 90 or so shelter locations, these are evacuation centers that were set up before the hurricane hit to get people out of harms ways.” Steve Hansen says Hurricane Michael is a significant event and the American Red Cross will be on the ground for months to come to help out in the wake of the hurricane. Hansen says 90 Red Cross volunteers from Wisconsin were sent to help out in the wake of Hurricane Florence and there are still 500 people living in Red Cross shelters in the Carolinas.
