Ripon Friends Of The Parks
Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says the City of Ripon has developed a Friends of the Parks program for those who would like to donate toward park improvements. Mansmith is member of the Ripon Parks and Recreation Committee. He says the Friends program is a way people can donate to the City Parks now or leave something in their will to enhance the parks. He says, “This is an opportunity for people to kind of make a donation or maybe make a memorial donation or any kind of estate planning to kind of help beautify and continue to kind of grow the parks.” He points out sometimes budgets are tight and the Friends program is another resource the City can use to continue to grow their parks. More information about the program will be included in upcoming City utility bills.
Fire Safety Prevention Tip
Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says one of the newer fire prevention methods they mention to people now is to close your bedroom door at night. He says building methods and materials have evolved over time and unfortunately that makes home and building fires more dangerous than ever. He says, “Over the years as building materials have changed. The materials for basically everything that goes into our house have changed. Fires burn faster, they burn hotter. The smoke is far more toxic.” The idea behind having your bedroom door shut while you sleep at night is that if there is a fire it is going to keep smoke out of the bedroom for a longer period of time and give you a better opportunity at being able to get out of your house. We are coming off of National Fire Prevention Week.
National Organization Provides Jobs For People With Disabilities
A national organization finds jobs for people with disabilities who would prefer to work at home. It’s called the National Telecommuting Institute or NTI. Kate Brouse of NTI says they have two programs. She says, “It provides customer service positions with Fortune 500 companies for people to do in their own homes. We also have IT help desk positions and some things like that. There are entry level positions all the way up to executive level.” Another option to work on site. Brouse notes with that program they can help with a job you might have already. The “Land a Job” Division offers the ability to be reimbursed for job-related expenses like uniforms, child care, even transportation to and from work. She says they have a database of over 600,000 active jobs across the U.S. It all gets started with training NTI provides. Registration is done on their website radio.nticentral.org.
