Agnesian HealthCare is proud to announce the promotion of DeAnn Thurmer to president and chief nursing officer of Ripon Medical Center and Waupun Memorial Hospital, effective October 1, 2018.
Since early June, Thurmer has been serving as interim chief operating and nursing officer at Ripon Medical Center, in addition to her responsibilities as chief operating and nursing officer at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
“DeAnn has been a valuable member of our ministry for many years, and for that we are grateful,” says Steve Little, regional chief operating officer, SSM Health -Wisconsin. “She has proven to be a positive and reassuring leader bringing forward her knowledge of critical access hospitals and long-term experiences as a nursing professional and leader that demonstrate her continued commitment to growth and success in both Ripon and Waupun area communities.”
DeAnn Thurmer, a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh nursing graduate, started her career at Waupun Memorial Hospital in 1985. Over the years, she worked in the emergency department and in-service/education before moving into management. In 2004, she was named as the Waupun Memorial Hospital chief operating officer/chief nursing officer.
Thurmer also has system responsibility for nutrition & food service, diabetes/endocrinology/infectious disease, school nurses, security/risk management/patient safety/accreditation and infection control with ambulatory infusion/IV therapy/home infusion.
She has previously served in interim leadership roles for Agnesian HealthCare, first as chief nursing officer for both Waupun Memorial Hospital and St. Agnes Hospital, and second, as vice president of patient services at both hospitals.
Thurmer earned a master’s degree from Marian College in Organizational Leadership and Quality.
“I have truly treasured my time so far at Ripon Medical Center with our staff, physicians and volunteers,” according to Thurmer. “They have been very welcoming, and I appreciate all the support they have shown me during this interim time. There are so many wonderful opportunities between our teams in Ripon and Waupun to share resources and expertise, and I am excited to help lead these efforts.
“And, now that I will be serving both these valuable communities, I am looking forward to meeting more area residents and leaders to learn how our critical access hospitals can more effectively meet their needs,” Thurmer adds.
